Muscat Hamburg is a medium-late table variety with a growing season of about 148 days. The bushes have medium vigor and form large, loose, conical clusters. The berries are large, oval, dark purple or dark blue in color with a bloom, and possess a pronounced muscat aroma. The variety has low resistance to diseases, gray mold, and frost (down to -19°C), and is prone to berry shelling.

In Canary Islands winemaking, the name Moscatel Negro sometimes refers to the Listán Prieto variety, which is not related to muscat varieties. This is a historical variety, resistant to drought and heat, characterized by high yield and intended primarily for wine production.
