The Muscat family is characterized by a wide variety of morphological traits: berry color ranges from almost white and golden to pink and dark purple. Clusters are usually medium or large in size, and ripening periods can be either early or late depending on the specific variety.

All members of the family have a high terpene content, which provides an intense characteristic aroma with notes of flowers, citrus, pear, and honey. Varieties of this group are demanding of growing conditions and develop best in warm, sunny regions with low rainfall.
