The variety is autochthonous to the eastern regions of France, in particular to Savoy and the Rhône and Loire river valleys. The plant is characterized by high vigor with long, thin, drooping shoots. The variety belongs to the late ripening category and is considered quite productive, while showing sensitivity to powdery mildew and anthracnose.

The clusters are medium-sized, dense, cylindrical-conical in shape with wings. The berries are small or medium, round, flattened, with thin but firm black-blue skin. The berry flesh is tender and juicy. The resulting wine possesses an intense color, moderate alcohol content, and a good aromatic profile.
