The variety is a black wine grape, which is also known by the names Crujidera and Mourisco Tinto. Genetic studies have confirmed its origin from Spain and its status as an ancestor of a number of autochthonous varieties. It is not a table grape and is intended for the production of red wines, often included in blends.

The plant belongs to the late-ripening group and is distinguished by high vine yield. The berries have relatively low acidity, which is reflected in the name of the variety. Wines based on this grape have a medium body, moderate tannins, and aromatic notes of red cherry and licorice.
