ActiveVitis vinifera L. · Common grape vine
TIMOTHY SHEEHAN
10 August 2026
The variety is native and traditional to the Terra Alta region. The crop belongs to the late-ripening varieties. The plant has large trunk, shoot, leaf, and cluster sizes, and the berry skin has a blue-lead hue.
In cultivation, the variety is considered relatively difficult, characterized by unstable yields and low must yield. It was historically affected by phylloxera, which led to its near-total extinction. Wines from this variety possess a balance of alcohol and acidity, aromas of ripe red fruits, balsamic and spicy notes, as well as a silky texture with soft tannins.
