The variety is autochthonous to Italy and is traditionally cultivated in the Abruzzo region. The vines are medium-sized with bisexual flowers. The clusters are medium-sized, conical or cylindrical-conical in shape, often winged, and of medium or high density. The berries are oval, medium-sized, with juicy, colorless pulp.

The variety requires a warm climate and a long growing season. Wines made from it are characterized by a ruby color, moderate acidity, and pronounced fruit and berry tones. The variety has aging potential and performs well when oak barrels are used.
