The variety belongs to the species Vitis vinifera L. and is an indigenous French variety. Morphologically, it is characterized by vigorous growth, rounded, slightly lobed leaves of medium to large size, as well as medium to large bunches with elliptical berries.

Mourvaison is a late-ripening variety that requires short pruning and placement in warm, sunny sites. A wine grape variety, it produces acidic and tannic wines, while not demonstrating high susceptibility to fungal diseases.
