Négret de la Canourgue is an endemic variety of the upper Tarn river valley. For a long time it remained little-known and was officially recognized at the European Union level only in 2025.
The plant possesses vigorous vine growth and high yield. The variety is classified as a wine grape; medium-sized black berries form medium-sized clusters. Wines produced from it are characterized by a pale color and are suitable for creating light rosé wines.
