The variety originates from the Garonne river valley and is related to the Prunelard variety. The plant is characterized by a perfect flower and rounded, deeply lobed leaves with five, seven, or nine lobes, which visually resemble those of Cabernet Sauvignon.
It is used exclusively in winemaking. Wines produced from this variety are noted for their freshness and pronounced red fruit notes, possess potential for the use of local yeast strains, and contain terpenes.
