The variety originated in the second half of the 19th century in Austria. Genetic analysis confirmed that it is a spontaneous hybrid of Roter Veltliner and Sylvaner varieties. The vines are characterized by medium to strong growth vigor.
Leaves are medium, round, ranging from nearly entire to three-lobed. Clusters are medium-sized, usually dense, of cylindrical-conical shape. Berries are medium-sized, round, light green, and may acquire a golden hue upon ripening.
The variety is of early-mid ripening period with high and stable yields. The variety is susceptible to downy mildew, powdery mildew, and botrytis bunch rot, and possesses low frost resistance.
Wines from this variety are distinguished by structure, full body, and softness. The aromatic profile includes notes of nut, almond, white fruits, and honey nuances.
