The variety is autochthonous to the Kakheti region of Georgia. The name translates as "red horn" due to the characteristic color of the pedicels and shoots. The vines are distinguished by strong growth and a pyramidal crown shape with upright shoots. The ripening period is 155–165 days.

Clusters are medium-sized, cylindrical or conical in shape, often with a wing. Berries are medium, round or oval, golden-yellow in color with a bronze tan, and covered with a thin but firm skin.

The variety has good resistance to fungal diseases and frost, however, it is sensitive to drought and requires crop load management to maintain quality. Wine materials from Rkatsiteli are characterized by freshness, balanced acidity, and an aromatic profile with notes of apple, citrus, flowers, and honey.
