ActiveVitis vinifera L. · Common grape vine
TIMOTHY SHEEHAN
10 August 2026
The variety belongs to the mid-to-late maturity group. A characteristic morphological feature is the change in berry color during ripening: before the veraison stage, they can have three different shades. The variety is considered resistant to major diseases; however, it shows sensitivity to the fruit set process, which can lead to fruit drop.
The grapes produce wines with a moderate tannin structure, low color intensity, and a fresh taste with floral notes and tones of red fruits. Historically, the name Rome may be used as a synonym for certain teinturier grape varieties, which have colored pulp and juice, requiring these concepts to be distinguished.
