The variety has a perfect flower and a five-lobed, wedge-shaped, slightly dissected leaf. It is characterized by high susceptibility to downy mildew and a tendency to shatter, while showing lower sensitivity to powdery mildew.

The grapes are used for the production of red wines with intense color and high tannin content, characterized by a neutral aroma and reduced acidity. It is mainly used in blends, and its modern commercial plantings are extremely rare.
