The variety is autochthonous to Dalmatia and originated from a natural cross between the varieties Vugava and Plavac Mali. It is used primarily in winemaking, including the production of the traditional dessert wine Prošek, and is less frequently considered a table grape.
The variety belongs to the late maturity group and possesses hermaphroditic flowers. It is characterized by general resistance to a number of diseases, and the wines produced from it are distinguished by a low acid content.
