The variety is a black-skinned form of the white variety Aidani (Aidani Aspro) and has historically been grown on the islands of the Cyclades archipelago. It belongs to technical wine varieties, is suitable for the production of red and rosé wines, and is often used in blends with other varieties such as Mandilaria or Assyrtiko.
The plant ripens late and is distinguished by high yield. The vines form large and dense clusters with berries covered with thick skin. The variety is drought-tolerant and well-adapted to hot climates, however, due to the high density of the clusters, it shows susceptibility to downy mildew and powdery mildew.
Wines made from this grape have medium body, moderate acidity and tannin levels, as well as characteristic aromas of herbs and red fruits.
