The variety is a local Greek grapevine whose exact origin and genetic history have not been established. It is used both as a table grape on the island of Lemnos and as part of local winemaking traditions, including blends.

There is significant morphological and genetic heterogeneity of this variety. Under the common name, there is often a group of differing clones, and confusion with varieties having colored berries is also observed, as regional synonyms in literature often overlap.

The characteristics of the variety strongly depend on the microclimate of specific cultivation areas, such as the Peloponnese, Corfu, and Lemnos. Detailed systematized data on agronomic traits, such as ripening periods or disease resistance, are absent in open publications.
