The variety is a hybrid of Petit Bouschet and Grenache. Its key distinguishing feature is the presence of pigment not only in the skin but also in the pulp and juice of the berries, which allows it to be used for color correction of base wines from less pigmented varieties.
The plant's leaves are large and moderately lobed. The variety is characterized by thick skin, which provides resistance to rot during transport, although susceptibility to downy mildew is noted.
Wines from this variety possess a deep dark color, full body, and high alcohol content. It is used both for creating blended wines and for the production of single-varietal beverages.
