The variety is autochthonous to the Emilia-Romagna region, where it has been cultivated since the 14th century. Genetic studies indicate a relationship with the Garganega variety. The leaves are medium-sized, pentagonal, and five-lobed. The berries are large, rounded, and yellow with a pronounced waxy bloom.

The variety prefers a warm climate and well-lit slopes. Due to the thick berry skins, it possesses resistance to adverse conditions. Currently, it is considered a rare and endangered variety with limited cultivation areas, despite the aging potential of its wines.
