The variety is an autochthonous Portuguese grape representing part of the traditional genetic pool of Vitis vinifera. The main synonyms for the name are Síria, Côdega and Roupeiro; the variety may also be identified as Cayetana Blanca or Doña Blanca.

The plant belongs to wine varieties with small bunches and yellow-green berries. The variety is characterized by high yield and relative resistance to downy mildew and powdery mildew, but it shows high sensitivity to grey mold.

Wines produced from this variety are distinguished by freshness and elegance. When grown in hot climates, the variety is prone to a loss of acidity and aromatic properties; therefore, cultivation in cool regions is preferred.
