The variety is autochthonous to Portugal. Bushes have medium vigor and good shoot maturation. Leaves are medium, rounded, three- or five-lobed, with bristly-arachnoid pubescence on the underside.
Clusters are small or medium, cylindrical or cylindrical-conical, often winged, of medium density. Berries are dark violet, oval-shaped, with a thick waxy bloom. The variety is distinguished by quite high productivity and the ability to form a crop from latent buds.
The variety shows weak resistance to fungal diseases, including susceptibility to powdery mildew and gray mold, however, it has some tolerance to downy mildew. It is used mainly for the production of red, rosé wines and vintage ports, less frequently consumed fresh.
