The vine has pentagonal, five-lobed, slightly dissected leaves of bright green color with a glossy surface and felt-like pubescence on the underside. The flower is hermaphroditic. Bunches are small or medium, dense or medium-dense, and cylindrical-conical in shape. Small, round berries turn white upon ripening and acquire a brownish or reddish tan. The berry skin is thin, and the pulp is juicy.
The variety possesses resistance to Botrytis cinerea, but has low resistance to other fungal diseases and requires winter cover. Yield is low and variable. Genetically, Altesse is close to the Chasselas variety. The variety is intended exclusively for winemaking, allowing for the production of full-bodied wines with notes of citrus, bergamot, herbs, and honey.
