The Amos variety is an interspecific hybrid obtained by crossing the Severny and Schwarzmann varieties. It is intended exclusively for use as a rootstock and does not belong to table or wine grape varieties.

The plant is characterized by medium or weak shoot growth and relatively deep rooting. Bud burst time is rated as medium, and maturity time as medium or late.

The variety possesses good winter hardiness, attributed to the presence of Vitis amurensis genetic material, as well as a low level of flower abscission. Compatibility ratings when grafted with Vitis vinifera varieties are assessed as good.
