The variety is of French origin and is genetically linked to local varieties of the Atlantic Pyrenees region. The letter N in the name denotes the black color of the berry skin. The grape belongs to the species Vitis vinifera and is officially included in the French catalog of varieties.
The vines have good vigor. The variety is characterized by a late ripening period and requires a hot climate. The clusters and berries are small, the leaves are five-lobed with cobweb-like pubescence. The flowers are hermaphroditic, although there is data on the possibility of a female flowering type, which leads to ovarian shedding.
The yield of the variety is generally low, with productivity depending on the type of pruning. The plant shows sensitivity to gray mold due to the density of the clusters. The variety is intended exclusively for winemaking.
