The variety is autochthonous to the southwest of France and is traditionally cultivated in the Adour Valley, the Gascony, Jurançon, and Béarn regions. The variety is of folk origin and is genetically related to the Courbu and Petit Verdot variety groups.
The grape leaf is rounded, small, five-lobed, with dense woolly pubescence on the underside. The flower is hermaphroditic. The bunch is medium-sized, conical in shape, and of medium density. The berry is medium-sized, round, white in color, with thin skin and a waxy bloom.
The vine has good vigor but irregular fertility. The variety is susceptible to downy mildew, black rot, and berry shatter, and has low winter hardiness. Wine from this variety is distinguished by notes of muscat, white flowers, and exotic fruits with a characteristic flinty undertone.
