The variety is a traditional cultivar adapted to the conditions of volcanic soils and the climate of Santorini. It belongs to wine grape varieties and is often used in the production of wines with the Protected Geographical Indication 'Cyclades'. The variety is considered rare and is valuable for the preservation of the genetic diversity of Greek viticulture.
The clusters of the variety are small or medium, the berries are medium-sized with a yellow-green skin color. Wines produced from it are distinguished by moderate to high acidity and aromas of white fruits. It should be noted that the name 'Asprouda' is also used for other genetically distinct local grape varieties in Greece.
