The variety is autochthonous to the Greek region of Macedonia. The name derives from the Greek word meaning 'whitish' and indicates its belonging to the group of white varieties of the region.

Used exclusively as a wine grape variety for creating varietal or blended white wines. The winemaking approach is aimed at preserving the authentic characteristics of the variety.
