Variety description

10 August 2026

The name derives from the Greek word meaning "white." In agronomic and oenological literature, this designation serves as a verbal repository for a group of genetically heterogeneous varieties that have traditionally been grown, harvested, and vinified by winegrowers together.

Despite being recorded in official catalogues, molecular genetic studies confirm that this grape is a group of varieties rather than a single plant. Consequently, uniform characteristics of ripeness, morphology, and disease resistance for this group do not exist.

The produce is used in micro-winemaking primarily as part of blends, where the profile of the finished wine directly depends on the quantitative and qualitative composition of the varieties included in the group in a specific vineyard.
