Blanca de Monterrei is an autochthonous grape variety, also found under the name Branca de Monterrei. In genetic databases, the variety is linked to Carrega Branco and is sometimes considered in the same group as the Doña Blanca variety within the framework of regional regulations.
The variety has medium-sized clusters with a loose structure and belongs to early maturity groups. The wines are characterized by medium acidity, moderate alcohol content, and a specific bitterness in the aftertaste. Due to its properties, the variety is most often used in blends with other white varieties of the region.
In modern conditions, vineyards of this variety are grown primarily on trellises to control yield and ensure exposure of the fruit to light.
