The variety is an Austrian wine grape bred in 1923. Clone E.2 is maintained and studied by the institute in Eger. The ripening period is early to mid-early. The plant possesses resistance to gray mold, but is susceptible to powdery mildew and downy mildew.

The leaves of the variety are five-lobed. The clusters are characterized by medium size, cylindrical shape, medium density, and the presence of a wing. The berries are dark blue with a pronounced bloom. Specific differences of the E.2 clone from the base variety are not described in open data.

The grape is used to create wines distinguished by a deep color, which makes it a sought-after component for blends. The flavor and aroma profile includes hints of currant, raspberry, and cherry, with moderate acidity and velvety tannins, while the overall aroma is neutral.
