The variety is a natural color mutation of the Silvaner variety. The berry color varies from gray and pink to purple, with the berry skin being relatively thick. The vine is characterized by strong growth and a medium but stable yield level.

The variety belongs to the medium or late ripening groups. The plant is sensitive to frost and susceptible to a number of diseases, including chlorosis, downy mildew, and gray mold, although the thick skin of the berries provides partial protection against rotting.

The winemaking profile of the variety differs from the basic Silvaner in greater density, earthy shades, and minerality. The variety is rare and is grown primarily in the Franconia region of Germany.
