The variety is an interspecific hybrid, the genotype of which combines genes of Vitis amurensis, Vitis rotundifolia and Vitis vinifera. It was obtained by crossing the forms (VRH3082-1-42 (Aubun x VRH1-28-82)) and Petra.

Borsmenta is classified as a late-ripening wine variety with high resistance to downy mildew and powdery mildew, which allows for minimizing chemical treatments of vineyards. Wines from this variety possess freshness, good acidity and specific aromas of mint, anise, sage, pear and ripe apples.
