Variety description

10 August 2026

The early-ripening variety has orbicular five-lobed leaves with medium density pubescence on the underside. The bunches are predominantly medium to small in size, broad-conical, compact or medium-compact. The small, round or slightly oval berries are golden in color and become covered with small brown spots upon full ripening.

The plant has high resistance to Botrytis cinerea but is susceptible to powdery mildew. The yield of the variety is at an average level. The variety is autochthonous to Portugal and is a natural hybrid of the Malvasia Fina variety and an unknown variety.

Bical is used as a wine grape variety for creating aromatic white wines with high acidity and notes of stone fruits. Wines from this variety are well-suited for aging in oak barrels and lees contact, and in the Bairrada region, it plays an important role in the production of sparkling wines.
