The variety is a natural hybrid of the Montonico pinto and Scacco varieties. The vine has hermaphrodite flowers. The leaf is pentagonal, five-lobed, medium-sized, with medium-density pubescence on the underside. The bunch is medium or small in size, conical in shape, and of medium density.
The berries are medium-sized, round or slightly oval in shape, white in color with a thick waxy bloom, the skin is of medium thickness, and the pulp is juicy. Harvesting is usually carried out in the first ten days of October. The variety shows heat resistance and drought tolerance, and tolerates temperature fluctuations well.
The purpose of the variety is exclusively for winemaking. Wines from Carricante possess pronounced acidity and minerality, with notes of citrus, white flowers, green apples, and anise predominating in the aroma. The main cultivation zone is located on the eastern slopes of Mount Etna.
