The variety, also known by the names Tinta Castañal and Rabo de Cordeiro, is a traditional local variety recovered after the threat of extinction. The plant is characterized by medium yield, small dense clusters, and berries of an intense violet-blue color.
The grapes have high susceptibility to powdery mildew and a predisposition to wood diseases. The variety is capable of accumulating significant aromatic potential, which allows for the creation of wines with notes of strawberry, raspberry, cherry, spices, and herbs, distinguished by good freshness.
