The variety is the result of a natural cross between Cayetana Blanca and Alfrocheiro. The plant is characterized by vigorous growth and bisexual flowers. The clusters are medium or large, cylindrical or cylindrical-conical in shape, and compact. The berries are small or medium, round, dark blue in color with thick skin.
The variety is prone to early bud burst and is characterized by high yield, although berry ripening may be uneven. The variety is hardy and grows well in poor soils, however, it requires control of downy mildew and powdery mildew. The vine wood is noted for its hardness.
Used for the production of red, rosé, sparkling, and fortified wines. Young wines possess high acidity and firm tannins, and upon aging, they develop a complex aromatic profile with notes of berries, spices, leather, and tobacco.
