The variety is a rare representative of the species Vitis vinifera L. and is intended for wine production. Genetic analysis confirmed its origin through the natural crossing of the Hebén and Alfrocheiro varieties. The variety is officially included in the National Catalogue of Grape Varieties of Portugal.
Currently, the variety belongs to the category of minor varieties, and certified planting material is practically unavailable. Detailed data on vine characteristics, disease resistance, ripening periods, and product quality indicators are not widely available. It should not be confused with the Castelão variety, which is a red grape.
