Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety originates from the Calabria region and is also cultivated in Basilicata and Campania. Wines made from this variety possess a ruby color, a rich "body" and fresh acidity. Genetic studies confirm the variety's status as a distinct cultivar.

The variety has a number of synonyms, including Castiglione di Bova, Castiglione di Guarnacciato, Marchesana, Nerello di Egua, Nocera di Egua, Zagarese, and Zagarolese. Detailed agrotechnical and morphological characteristics of the variety are extremely limited in open sources.
