The variety is indigenous to Aragon and is also known by the synonyms Moristel, Juán Ibáñez, Miguel de Arcos, and Miguel del Arco. It is used exclusively for winemaking, often in blends to add color, body, and fruity nuances. The wines are characterized by freshness and floral and fruity notes.

The plants are characterized by high vigor, a late ripening period, and low yield. Bunches are medium-sized and compact. Berries are medium-sized, cylindrical in shape, with thin blue-black skin. The variety shows good resistance to drought and frost, as well as to a number of grapevine diseases.
