The variety is autochthonous to the region of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina; its origin remains unknown. It is used primarily as a blending partner with varieties such as Žilavka, Bena, and Krkošija, and less frequently for monovarietal wines or the traditional dessert ćupter. It has numerous synonyms, including Grban, Kuč, Pljuskavac, Rukavina, Šampanjol, and Trbljan bijeli.

The plant belongs to the mid-late ripening group and is characterized by high yield. It prefers deep and moderately moist soils. The variety is susceptible to downy mildew and gray mold, which requires regular maintenance. The berries accumulate 16–19% sugar, and the finished wines have a color ranging from pale yellow to straw, an alcohol content of 9–11%, and elevated acidity.
