The variety is recognized in Croatia and is historically associated with the border regions of Italy and Slovenia, where it is known by the synonym Vitovska or Vitovska grganja. Currently, the variety is extremely rare, mainly appearing as individual vines in old plantations in the vicinity of the town of Novi Vinodolski.

The grape is classified as a wine variety. The produce is characterized by a medium sugar content and a medium level of total must acidity. The variety is not demanding regarding soil type and can be cultivated under various pruning systems, including short and long.
