The variety is native to Portugal and is traditionally cultivated in the Vinho Verde region. The plant has high vigor and features five-lobed, deeply dissected leaves. Bunches are small or medium-sized, dense, and cylindrical in shape with shoulders. The berries are blue-black in color, medium-sized, and slightly elongated.
The variety belongs to the late maturity group and is distinguished by high yield. Wines made from it are characterized by a ruby or garnet color, and the variety is mainly used in blends for the production of table wines. Synonyms for the variety include Borralho, Cascon, and Espadeiro Doce.
