Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety has a very ancient history, and genetic studies indicate its origin from the Lake Geneva region. There are about 250 synonyms for this variety, including Gutedel, Fendant, and Chasselas Doré, with the name Feher chasselas being predominantly used in Hungary.

The variety is multipurpose and belongs to the early or medium-early group. The berries have thin skin and a color ranging from pale green to golden, possessing a delicate taste. Wines from this grape are characterized by lightness, moderate acidity, freshness, and aromas of citrus, green apple, pear, and floral notes.

The variety is valued for its stability, and it is capable of reaching full maturity without accumulating excessive levels of alcohol. As a typical representative of Vitis vinifera, it is susceptible to traditional risks characteristic of European grape varieties.
