The variety is a hybrid of Berlandieri Colombard 1B and Richter 31. The vines are medium-vigor, with shoot lengths of about 2.5 meters. The root system is characterized as creeping and shallow, with good rooting from cuttings.

The main feature of the variety is high resistance to chlorosis: it tolerates up to 60% total carbonate content and up to 40% active lime in the soil. It possesses high resistance to the root form of phylloxera and medium resistance to the leaf form, while being extremely sensitive to esca and Phomopsis.

Fercal tolerates spring waterlogging well, however, it experiences difficulty with magnesium absorption, especially with an excess of potassium. Grapevine varieties grafted onto it demonstrate good affinity, accelerated union, and an improvement in berry quality in terms of sugar content and acidity.
