The variety is a clone selected from a population of the local variety Fetească neagră. It is a wine variety intended for the production of high-quality red wines, including wines with controlled designation of origin.

The clone has a relatively low production potential, requiring the use of long fruiting elements during pruning (12-14 buds). To obtain a high-quality harvest, control of vine load and green operations are necessary. Material of this clone is used in programs for producing virus-free planting material using thermotherapy and in vitro culture methods.

Like the parent variety, Fetească neagra 7 Od demonstrates good resistance to drought and frost. The grapes maintain the sugar accumulation characteristics typical of the original variety at a level of 200–220 g/l and stable acidity.
