The variety has a centuries-old history of cultivation in the Cotnari region. It is genetically close to the Hungarian Furmint variety. The variety is heterogeneous and includes various biotypes, which can differ in vigor, bunch size, and leaf shape.

The grape leaf is medium-large, five-lobed, rounded or kidney-shaped, with grayish down on the underside. The bunch is medium-sized, conical-cylindrical in shape. The tips of young shoots are covered with bristles; the leaflets are yellowish in color with pinkish edges.

The variety has the ability for high sugar accumulation, reaching a sugar concentration of 240 g/l or more, which allows for the production of sweet and dessert wines. In modern winemaking practice, it is also used to produce dry and semi-dry wines.
