The Karydato variety is of Greek origin and is traditional for the island of Samos and other regions of Greece. In European grape variety catalogs, it is designated with the index "B", which usually indicates a white grape; however, the presence of the synonym Karydato Noir in a number of sources allows for the existence of variations in berry color.
This variety belongs to autochthonous landrace types; precise information regarding its origin, parent pairs, as well as detailed morphological characteristics and yield data are absent in open publications.
