The «Karát» variety (also designated in official registers as «Karát Kt.6») was bred by Hungarian breeders András Kurucz and István Quaiser. It originates from a cross of «Szürkebarát» (Pinot gris) and «Kövidinka» varieties.
This variety is a wine grape and is used in winemaking. The plant possesses high resistance to arid conditions, exhibiting one of the best tolerances to water deficit among a number of studied grape varieties. It is cultivated primarily within the territory of Hungary.
