The Kleščec variety, also known as Kleščec bijeli, originates from the Kalnik wine-growing region of Croatia. The variety was previously mistakenly identified as Knipperlé or Ortlieber, but modern DNA tests have proven it to be an independent variety.

The plant is classified as a wine grape variety. Young shoots have a slightly curved shape, weak pubescence, and a reddish tint at the edges; mature shoots are light green with redness in the area of the nodes and leaf petioles. The variety is recommended for cultivation in the Croatian Uplands region.
