ActiveVitis L. · Grapevine

The variety is a mid-season wine grape with vigorous vines and upright shoots. The clusters are small or medium-sized, cylindrical in shape and of high density; the medium-sized berries have juicy pulp and thin, delicate skin.
The plant tolerates winter cold well, but shows sensitivity to chlorosis, grey mold, and damage by the European grapevine moth. Yield is characterized as variable; it requires short pruning and is preferably grown on sandy-clay or calcareous soils.
In winemaking, the variety is used to create soft wines with good alcohol content, but it is not among those authorized for the production of AOC category wines. Currently, the variety is considered rare and has many synonyms, including Klessec and Ortlieber.
