A mid-season ripening variety, maturing 1–2 weeks earlier than Furmint. The plant is characterized by vigorous shoot growth, dark green leaves with serrated margins, and medium, loose, branched bunches. Large round berries have thin skin and juicy, melting flesh.
The variety possesses good resistance to frost and drought, yet is extremely sensitive to Botrytis and downy mildew. Yield is assessed as low, which is attributed to the biological degeneration of old clones. Genetically, it is the result of a natural cross between the variety Heunisch and an unknown parent.
A wine variety used for creating white wines with a full body and a rich aromatic profile, including notes of pear, honey, apricot, and fig. Due to its propensity for infection with noble rot, the variety is traditionally used in blends for the production of sweet Tokaj wines; single-varietal versions also exist.
